He's big and soft and has a bloated contract. Us Blues fans are happy to be rid of him. But maybe you should go a little easy on him. It's not like you traded the Farm for him, you know.

You got him for a fourth liner. That's about what he's worth.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169155003164451698.post-55182180400156333512008-03-03T23:25:00.001-05:002008-03-03T23:25:00.001-05:00So tonight Sean Avery has broken the silence as ne...So tonight Sean Avery has broken the silence as negotiations with Slats has broken down. Why even pay for the rights (even at the absurdly low rate the NHL gives them) if you're NBC? They clearly don't care about the league if they cut away from an exciting overtime hockey game between division rivals! That said, my friend in NJ was able to watch the whole game, so it's odd that they would cut to golf on Staten Island but not in NJ...

On the game: Scotty, I agree with most of what you said in your post on this game. The Staal/Backman pairing had real problems getting out of their own end last night and Backman alone is enough to give fans a heart attack every shift he's out there. I don't like that fans were booing him 7 minutes into the game (67 minutes into his Rangers career, that's absurd), and he did net a goal, but he's gotta pick his game up. Regardless, I think Mara replaces him once he's back healthy. The young Staal needs more cover than Backman can provide.

I think the team has had some lapses defensively, but we all need to remember that the Rangers' opponents are just as desperate as they are. They're not going to win every game 4-0 or 5-0. These are playoff-type games and the Rangers have shown the ability to clamp down and win them; Shanny has said as much after almost every single game during this run.

Of course the Rangers have shortcomings...every team does. But they have 33 wins against the Eastern Conference and nothing but conference games remaining, mostly within the division. They seem to play their best hockey in these situations, so while its easy to question some things, it's also possible to believe in this team's ability to win the division with a strong finish to the season.

One last comment...I think a petition is in order to move Sather's ass on locking up Avery. The more I think of him leaving, the more worried I become. Apparently there have been negotiations, with Sean representing himself (not advised by most people in pro sports), but this guy should be locked up until he's well into his 30's...he's clearly the team MVP and has been largely since he arrived.Rob Cellettihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17980674126347582495noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169155003164451698.post-59943389549749158082008-03-03T01:09:00.000-05:002008-03-03T01:09:00.000-05:00From what I understand, some fans did not get to e...From what I understand, some fans did not get to enjoy the overtime and shootout from their seats at home-NBC cut to the all-important, past paced action of golf, rather than continuing to follow along with their half-hearted attempt at making hockey a marketable sport. Don't know if it was just the cable company or NBC that made the call, but, here on Staten Island, that appeared to be the case.Petehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11475304953684560462noreply@blogger.com
