[Toronto] has acquired forward Lee Stempniak from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for defenceman Carlo Colaiacovo and forward Alex Steen.
The Leafs utterly rob the Blues, getting a solid young American scoring winger for Thomas Steen's disappointing son and Don Cherry's favourite, the oft-injured Colaiacovo. That is insane. Glen Sather couldn't get Stempniak for a package of Prucha or Dawes and/or the oft-injured Mike Sauer or picks? This is twice this franchise passed up on getting Stemper - the first being the mistaken drafting of his Dartmouth teammate

This one is just sliding across my desk right now and I still can't believe it. Why did St.L give in to this trade?
Scotty, I think you're being a little unfair on this one. While I think Toronto did well in the deal, they did give up two NHL caliber guys. Sauer is certainly not NHL ready yet and has no experience and since Prucha is buried in the press box and has less points in 8 or 9 games than the worst puckhandler in the league (sorry Hank) you would have a tough time selling that one too imo. Cherry must like CC for a reason; sure, he is oft-injured, but he isn't half bad when healthy. Even if Sauer were OK right now, I think Potter, Fahey and Sangs are all ahead of him in Hartford and I expect to see Del Zotto and even Gaulton in MSG before Sauer at this rate...
