Torts Talks

John Tortorella spoke to the Fossil Fischler yesterday. Here is the link (h/t to Kukla), make sure you check it out.

I did and if I had any faith in Torts - which I didn't - it would be gone now. He didn't spew the 'go-team, we have a shot at the Cup' rhetoric. Instead he plays the same hotheaded egomaniac that he proved himself to be in the last postseason. 'I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll sit all of my stars down!'

In the interview (or at least the portion that Stan published), Torts didn't admit his mistakes, said honestly believes that Wade Redden can calm a team by limiting turnovers and admits that he doesn't have a lot of faith in Brandon Dubinsky - saying that Glen Sather has to get a number one center. Oh, so when the team inevitably falls short of the Cup, he can blame it on Glen? Let's face it, we all know it's Glen's fault for throwing money and not wisdom at problems but damn coach, at least take some responsibility.

Tortorella ends the interview saying "for me, coaching this team is a privilege!" Sadly, it seems he feels it is his right as well. We'll see once camp kicks off in September ...

Congrats Scotty! you're the first to see the king (aka Torturella) has no clothes. He's boorish, uncouth and egocentric. He's not the type of person that should be representing the NYR. For all the blame Zherdev received for not producing in the POs, the coach was never brought to task for doling out around 12 minutes to his most skillful forward. Sure, Z didn't deserve more time, but you saw the stinker we produced depending on "Torturella's" type of layers(plumbers). We are 2 injuries away from a lottery team. The Rangers are a "doughnt" team with nothing in the middle, a position that was once bountiful.

Scotty - I get that you love and are devoted to the team, but seriously, is there anyone that you LIKE in the organization? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy reading your blog, but to pay big bucks for season tickets, then CONSTANTLY rip on the coaches, players, organization, how could the games possibly be fun for you to watch? It must feel like going to hell every time you walk into MSG!

i didn't think it was that bad of an interview...why would you want him to spew cup rhetoric bullsh*t when i think everyone knows they're not going to win the cup. they aren't one of the elite teams in the league yet. when was the last time, over the course of a summer, a team went from a middle-low playoff and a long first round/short 2nd round exit, to a stanley cup champion? he's acknowledging that this team still needs work, i don't think there's anything wrong with that.

and as for the wade redden thing, look, no body likes him right now, but it's almost as if you WANT him to have a bad season. he was decent in the playoffs, no? you're down on this team before training camp! gotta stay positive for now, what's the point of moping about a team that hasn't even played together yet

FF - there are a few players I like. But I've mentioned it here before, I don't care for the current regime. The roster is a bit more likable heading into this season, thankfully. And no, walking in to MSG is not hell - quite the opposite. Anything is possible, it feels like home and I am going to see hockey, what could be better?

Eh. You're overreacting. The guy hasn't even had a full year here and you want to run him out of town already.

Let's see what he can do with a set roster. The offense can't be any worse. He also has to say the things he said about Redden. Not much choice.

I don't see what's to get so upset about. This team ain't winning anything. Wait till Grachev is a regular and the kids are acclimated on the blueline. Then get back to me.

Sorry but that's just me being blunt.
