Tough Talk From Torts

John Tortorella spoke to Jeff Z. Klein over at the Times today and had this to say about the signing of Vinny Prospal:
“Vinny and I had a long conversation prior to our even talking about this … I know, I’ve coached him for so many years — my question was, Does he want to play? Is life too good? Because he’s made a lot of money. He’s been successful. He’s a good person. But I just wanted to make sure that he wanted to play. He’s ticked off. He was bought out. He has something to prove here. I think it’s a good situation on a one-year deal, and show us maybe for when another contract comes around. Some other people in the organization need to understand that too.”
Brandon Dubinsky, you've been put on notice.

I also read torts's comments as a veiled threat to Dubinsky. I hate the way they're playing hardball with the kid. He bleeds Rangers blue.

he wants a real contract, but he has no arbitration rights so he's up to the mercy of sather. i don't think management has high expectations for him, if they did, they'd give him a new deal now instead of waiting until next summer. the reasoning being if he plays w/ gaborik he might put up big numbers which would mean a bigger contract.

him not having a new deal could be interpreted as them not having high expectations for him.. i guess.

I think it's a sign that SATHER SUCKS AND SHOULD DIE IN A FIRE.

Dubinsky has played 2 yrs and averaged 40 pts and less than 15 goals. How is that worth a nice raise? He has to decide what he's about. A payday or about what's best for the team.

I know it might not be fair but if he is so intent on getting that contract, he can earn it.
