To help satiate our craving for anything hockey, the NHL released the 2010-2011 schedule today. The full Ranger slate is located here and, if you missed it, the preseason games were already released last week. Eleven home games will be on weekends - three are possible NBC games with TBD times, there are two 12:30 starts, one 1 pm start and one 5 pm start.
It is hard to circle some dates (when will Jed hit town?) as free agency doesn't hit for over a week but there are still some notables:
*The Blueshirts can exact some revenge for the final game of last season when they face the Flyers for the first time in Philly on November 4th.
*While we won't get to see much of the Central division (BOOOO), the Northwest teams will come through. That means that someone will hopefully remember to get revenge for last season's Curtis Glencross hit on Chris Drury when Calgary comes in on November 22nd.
*Mmmmmmmaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrtttttttttttyyyyyyyy vs Avery 2010-11 kicks off on October 24th - the seventh game of the season. It ends with the very last game of the season - which luckily will be on Garden ice - Saturday, April 9th.
*Captain Sloppy Seconds will be here with the Leafs at the home opener on Friday, October 15th. The Rangers also face Toronto in Toronto on October 21st and October 30th; January 19th is the second home game.
*The other Original Six matchups? The reigning Cup winning Blackhawks come to the garden on November 1st. We play all four games against Montreal after New Years (1/11, 1/15, 2/5 and 3/18). Boston is scattered across the schedule - October 23rd, November 17th, March 26th and April 4th. We head to Detroit February 7th.
*For season ticket holders, in case you need to sell some games for good money, Crosby comes to the Garden on November 29th, February 1st and 13th while Ovie hits town November 9th and December 12th.

Mark Your Calendars - Preseason Dates
The full NHL 2010-11 schedule will be released on Tuesday (the 22nd) but today the Rangers announced their preseason slate - a trio of home-and-homes. They set up with the rivalry to see which players have passion, they move on to the class to see which players have skill and finish with Ottawa, to see who can win when no one cares.

Time To Fill Out Your Calendars
The NHL released the 2009-2010 schedule today. For the Rangers (and myself), it brings a mixed bag. Click here to see what's on slate for the Blueshirts.
Due to the Olympic break, there isn't a whole lot of time to rest over the course of the schedule. Much of the dates are packed in every-other-day rips, which is nice as that's the best way to get hot and stay hot. Then again, once you get in a losing streak it is that much harder to get out of it. And with the aforementioned Olympics, Torts will have to be super-sensitive to when Hank will get some rest - the last Olympics cost the Rangers a legitimate Cup run because Hank, Jagr and co. had played eight games more than most of the league.
The Rangers open their official schedule with the mighty slap across the face of having to stand and watch as the Penguins raise their Cup banner. Nice, right? Then they have to rush right back home for the Garden opener against Ottawa the next day - a Saturday! It should be a bloodbath in the Garden as they try to mix weekend family fun with Saturday night drunkenness and (hopefully) not the massive disappointment of a loss. At the least it will be interesting to see the reception for almost-Ranger Dany Heatley. I wonder if I should try bringing my Redden sign back ... hmmm ...
Personally, I don't like how things were laid out too much. As someone who works weekend evenings, I will have to beg and plead to get someone to cover me a helluva lot more than I wanted to as 13 of the 41 home games fall on Saturday or Sunday - and only three of those are day games. The 5 pm Sunday start against the Ducks on October 11th (the second home game of the season) doesn't count. And what is up with that? Are they trying to accommodate the 1 pm Giants game against Oakland of all teams?? I'm sure that will be one big draw and definitely one worth pandering to - for both Big Blue and the Blueshirts. /sarcasm
The rest of the schedule is mediocre - it will be nice to see the Red Wings in the Garden but Marian Gaborik's lone game against the Wild will be in Minnesota. That the Rangers don't have a home game against every Original Six team is also annoying; the Blackhawks won't be coming to New York. We don't see the Islanders in the city until the middle of December; hopefully by then DiPietro should be out for the season and Tavares will have proved to be a bust.

RANGERS ANNOUNCE PRE-SEASON SCHEDULE
Seven Games on 2009 Slate
New York, July 14, 2009 – New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced the 2009 pre-season schedule today, featuring three games at Madison Square Garden and a total of seven games in 13 days.
The Rangers will kick off the 2009 pre-season with a back-to-back set, opening against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday, September 15, before travelling to Newark to face-off against the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday, September 16. New York will then head to Detroit to face the Red Wings on Friday, September 18, in the first of back-to-back road games. The Blueshirts will travel to Boston to face the Bruins in the second game of the back-to-back road set on Saturday, September 19. On Monday, September 21, the Rangers return to The Garden to host the Red Wings. The Rangers will wrap up their pre-season schedule with a home-and-home set against the Capitals beginning on Thursday, September 24, in their final home game of the exhibition season, and concluding on Sunday, September 27, in an afternoon contest at Washington.
The 2009 New York Rangers training camp begins with players reporting to New York for physical testing at the Madison Square Garden Training Facility on Saturday, September 12.

Scheduling?
NBC just announced during the Wings/Hawks game that they will have Rangers/Caps on next Saturday at 1pm. That kinda causes some scheduling chaos as Game 1 has been virtually confirmed for Wednesday. So Wednesday-Saturday-Monday-Wednesday? That way Versus can take the Rangers nationally on Monday?
I know they are saying the scheduling will come out later tonight but dammit, a man has gotta plan!

Oh Happy Day!!!
The Rangers have released their schedule for the upcoming season so we can start planning our lives.
Hooray!
The first month of action provides some great match ups - four out of the seven home games are awesome:
Friday, October 10th vs. Blackhawks - Home opener is an Original Six match up, how cool is that? It's like someone in the league office is finally getting a clue.
Monday, October 13th vs. Devils - Fatso returns, and we don't have Sean Avery to screen him.
Monday, October 20th vs. Stars - Sean Avery returns, one week too late to help us tip the scales back in our favour.
Saturday, October 25th vs. Penguins - Cindy stops by to cry and whine to the refs.
The opening month's away games aren't so bad either with match ups against the Isles (hahaha), the Flyers and the Red Wings (ouch).
The rest of schedule has some goodies, including visits by Gretzky's kid Coyotes, the big, bad Quack attack and Marian Gaborik, who will try for six this time around.
The Rangers have yet to announce the dates for the special nights to honour Adam Graves, Harry Howell and Andy Bathgate, but if they stick with their stupid tradition and schedule it for a night against a meaningless opponent then keep your eyes on October 30th vs. the Thrashers, January 27th vs. the Hurricanes and February 26th vs. the Panthers.
If the Rangers decide to do the right thing, then Graves night would be on November 10th vs. the Oilers or November 19th vs. the Canucks. Bathgate's evening would come on October 17th or February 22nd against the Maple Leafs, the team he won a Stanley Cup with. While Howell won a Cup as a scout with the Oilers and coached the North Stars, the first Harry Howell Night came on a 2-1 win against the Boston Bruins so it would be good synergy to face off against them again (November 15th and March 8th).
No matter who they play, I am just damn pleased that the schedule is finally out. Now if there was only a way to fast forward to the fall so we can get this party started!!
