Sather FAIL

@TSNBobMcKenzie: Jody Shelley to PHI on a three year deal worth $1.1M per year.
Well, Glen's cheapskate ways hurt us again. After Colton Orr last year, now we lose Shelley. The guy stepped into the locker room and instantly solidified the room. He gave confidence to Arty and was loved by us fans. So of course we now have to see him go to not only a conference rival but a division rival to boot. I think the only way this day could get worse for the Rangers would be if they signed Ilya Kovalchuk to a decade-long deal.

a boogaard signing will make the end of my rangers fandom official. he and andrew peters deserve to meet in a special circle of hell for all eternity, going round and round with their right arms outstretched like they're trying to scratch their heels.

and that's it. i'm out.

So you would've signed a 34 year old enforcer for 3 years at 1M+?

ok just saw the boogard signing...way worse than shelley would've been. Prefer neither.

in this day and age, i wouldn't sign ANY one-dimensional goon. you need guys who can skate, score, and defend. not just dance around and throw the occasional haymaker.

shelley was solid, but i wouldn't have paid him what the flyers are paying him, either.

you can always find a solid guy who's willing to drop the gloves and might actually turn into an effective multi-dimensional player.

if this doesn't tell you that slats is a dinosaur, way past being relevant, then your powers of denial are on par with his.

Boogaard has 9 fighting majors last year, and has score 0 goals in each of the last 4 seasons. What the hell does that guy deserve 1.65 million a year for? Thats more than Orr makes, Shelley makes, brashear makes, etc.

Boogaard even makes more than Dan Ellis now.

SATHER = EPIC FAIL

Looks like Boogaard can't score, doesn't play anything close to a full season, and is injury prone to boot.

So, we could have spent 3 million over 3 years on an aged guy who had a positive effect on the locker room last year, but instead we spent 6.5 million on a young guy who is likely to spend most of his time IN the locker room for the next 4 years.

Maybe Marc Staal will just sit out the whole season too. That would round out the year nicely.

sathers death in a fire cannot come soon enough. we should follow him around with lighter fluid and matches and assist him.
