Wednesday Afternoon Open Thread

Since I have a neverending cough, I am heading to the doc. Any developments, anything on your mind, anything anything, use the comments here.

Some quick thoughts before I bounce:

*Does Glen Sather believe that Corey Potter is enough of a safety net for the Ranger blueline? TSN is saying Derek Morris is coming - he would be a nice addition but would Phoenix be willing to take Dmitri Kalinin? Otherwise, how could he fit under the cap?

*Will the new coach and the new old sparkplug be enough to get the engine going to drive the Rangers in to the playoffs?

*Are the Rangers going to be able to re-sign all of the UFAs and RFAs this offseason? Do you care?

*The 'big' deals have been out west, what is keeping the east so quiet? Boston has made smart moves to add pieces for a cup run in Recchi and Montador. They will be scary.

Be back soon ...

Rangers landed Antropov for draft picks. Since we suck in the draft maybe not a bad thing

Bye bye Prucha, Dawes, and Kalinlin all traded for Morris as reported by TSN

Nooooooo...not Pru! Please say it ain't so.

Crappers. Well...maybe it's an excuse to get one of those pheonix 3rd jerseys with Pru's name on it.

This Morris guy better be Sliced Bread 2.

Kind of upset that Dawes had to go too, but that opens up a spot for Antropov. Morris will be huge instead of Kalinin/Reitz and Antropov should be fine.

Feel better. I know you've been working some long hours.

I don't see why people think Morris is going to be good. He's 31 and a UFA. He peaked a few years ago. The Rangers unloaded 3 guys so that there will be another defenseman to be booed.

wow.

Rangers went at it, came out alright. Pru was the man, play hard these past few months, sad to see him go but he was the main part of this deal for sure..at least dimitri is gone. pretty pumped to see antropov play should fit in fine...Morris was a tank when playing for the flames...hope his right hand bomb of a shot is still good

I just see it as swapping Dawes, Prucha, and Kalinin for Antropov, Morris, and Avery. I dont think thats such a bad thing.

Just realized antropov and Morris are Borg ufa's this summer. Good luck trying to sign everyone, especially if they lower the cap because of the economy.

What are the Rangers at now with all these pickups, must be close to the cap...Antropov is 2.5 and Morris almost 4mill :S

I think I would have preferred either Ales Kotalik or DominickMoore for the 2nd round draft pick, instead of Antropov. But, hey, maybe playing in NY will do wonders for Antropov, who has been playing below expectations. Of course, Pru and Dawes were also playing below expectations. I would have just kept Pru. But, that's really just me, and I can understand that.

That first season Preston North End became the original “invincibles”, winning the competition without losing a game. In addition to the league title they also added the FA Cup to their trophy cabinet that season as well, becoming the first side to record “the double” (It would be 73 years, during the 1960-61 season, before this feat would be repeated; by Bill Nicholson’s Tottenham Hotspur).

It is second only to the UEFA Champions League, and teams which qualify for the Champions League do not traditionally play in the Euro Cup. The Cup evolved out of a number of other international football league competitions, and its history can be traced back over hundreds of years of European football. bet on football online Over the following several years the competition expanded and became less and less associated with the trade fairs. However, it wasn’t until the 1971/72 season that the competition was renamed the UEFA Cup.

The latest championship game, played on May 21st, 2008, was the first all English match in UEFA Cup history. This game, played in Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, was the first Cup championship played in Russia and only the third in history contested between two teams from the same country.

Currently, monies generated from television deals were paid to and distributed by the Football League, so clubs who weren’t regularly appearing on television were benefiting from the clubs who were.
