Covering Their Own Arse

The Rangers already got their P.R. machine going to make excuses for them after their desolate 1-5 preseason start. Just in case they look woeful in their two matches against European opponents in Switzerland (which I am going to see), they were jet lagged and they couldn't get used to the arena - both the ice size and the huge contingent of standing-room fans passionately rooting against them.

I'll do what I can to sway them, but a poor performance won't win the Rangers anymore fans on that side of the pond and will further infuriate the ones at home. After playing so poorly with a split squad in the first six, these throw-away exhibitions have become an important test to finally show fitness for the season to come, which begins in less than a week. Let's just hope that they don't play down to their excuses and dominate like they should ...

AMEN!!! All the other teams are saying the right things about how they're excited to be there and yeah the jet lag sucks but they'll deal with it....and here we are writing articles like this. Makes it tough to defend our Blueshirts to other fans.....

We went to Saturday's game. Thank God I got tickets off EBAY for $18.00. It was disgracful. All these "GREAT" players and the same shit. No shooting the puck, and no scoring. I know it is just preseason. But give me a break. Is it a Prereq to become a Ranger, you fall into the same shit, and play just as bad as who was here before. Does any one bring a new style. Or is Renney the culprit here. Is it his way or the highway? Been watching this crap for too long.

"They brought their fucking toys with them"

Nice that you realize that this is just preseason. They had young guys in all their games, as well as a short camp. I can't believe you consider yourself to be a good blogger for the Rangers.

Regardless of how they performed in the pre-season, I'd still like to see some PR spin from the front office that didn't have that CYA vibe to it...

Guys, please put the Dunlop quotes in the Vote 08 thread. And the fucking toys one is great ...

Anon 1 - I wish I knew ... Renney said he wanted the team to shoot more last year and they never did. Maybe they are just too nervous to break out of or even bend his defensive system to do it.

Anon 3 - You clearly aren't a reader here because I had a poll up last week where 28 people said that preseason mattered, to just one who said it didn't. And if you don't think I am a good blogger, don't read me! That simple ...

Pre-season win-loss record isn't really that important people. Although getting into shape, configuring your lines, who gels with who, that sort of thing are the most important essentials. If a team figures that out in pre-season and not worry about their record then, as the Rangers are, their record will probably look very nice during the actual season. I don't have a crystal ball, but I'm positive the play-offs would be in it.

...yes, preseason DOES matter. Not so much W-L record, but conditioning. I agree with the last anonymous reply. Rangers will likely be play-off bound again. Maybe win the Atlantic if Naslund can step it up and Dubinsky has a nice break-out year.
